In this anisotropicplus video I test total dissolved solids on our reverse osmosis (RO) system (Whirlpool WHAROS5) after two years on the original filters. I also compare it to simply boiling water as a method of purification and to the RO discharge water. If you are on a public water system and are interested in using RO to remove contaminants I highly recommend you watch this video. I found out that regular replacement of the activated carbon pre-filter is not only recommended it is critical for removing monochloramine from the tap water because it can damage the RO membrane if not removed by the activated carbon pre-filter.
