In this anisotropicplus video I wanted to use my 500 mm Fresnel lens to concentrate sunlight onto my Aeolipile and cause it to spin using only the sun for energy. I found that I needed to focus the sunlight horizontally rather than vertically for use with my homemade Aeolipile. I was able to use a mirror with the Fresnel lens to horizontally focus sunlight onto the Aeolipile, however, I learned a few things doing this and found that even though the Fresnel lens can easily ignite combustible materials it doesn’t necessarily mean it will have enough total power, energy/time, to rapidly and continuously boil an Aeolipile filled with water for continuous and high velocity production of steam. I also learned how being a little careless with a Fresnel lens in direct sun can accidentally start a fire.
