This anisotropicplus video demonstrates how to use an iPhone or other smart phone with a Level App to triangulate and estimate tree height. Some useful tips are offered and it is easy to follow the method. Triangulation is a well known method for estimating the height of tall objects. The University of British Columbia has an excellent website that describes these methods including how to handle trees on slopes. I highly recommend you visit their site at https://bigtrees.forestry.ubc.ca/measuring-trees/height-measurements/. This video is not meant to evaluate tree height measurement apps, but I did download and use the Arboreal – Tree Height app. Two measurements with the app gave me essentially an identical result compared to my triangulation method.
