This anisotropicplius video shows how you can run a Drinking Bird heat engine with a dry head and a warm bottom. This is a less safe and less effective way to run the bird because it is a higher pressure system compared to the reduced pressure you get with a cool wet head. This does demonstrate that a temperature difference is what is important as long as the temperatures are in a range suitable for the 103 to 104 degrees F boiling point of the methylene chloride.
