The physics of whip cracking is very interesting. In previous videos we have explored the falling chain and tapered mass conservation of momentum contributions to the high speed of the end of the whip and the loud crack sound that occurs. In this anisotropicplus video we show how a whip moving straight down without any other direction changes will crack and the end of the whip begins to move up against gravity as the handle continues downward.
