This anisotropicplus video shows why melting nylon twine or rope with an open flame to fuse the end and reduce fraying is not recommended due to exposure to fumes from the thermal decomposition of the nylon and fire risk. We show how to wrap nylon rope with tape to prevent fraying and present another approach for reduced fraying and improved knot holding using commonly available household chemicals.
