This anisotropicplus video shows a modified Roberval Balance, named for Gilles Personne de Roberval, a French mathematician credited with this design back in 1669 according to Wikipedia. This particular balance was built with the intention of using it for a gyroscope experiment. It is a fascinating device, but there are drawbacks that may not make it suitable for the gyroscope and Newton’s Third Law experiment.
