This anisotropicplus video shows how conservation of momentum in a decreasing mass bullwhip is a major contributor to the tip of the whip breaking the sound barrier which causes the whip crack. A novel bead bullwhip is constructed for the demonstration of both a decreasing taper and an increasing taper. A modified Newton’s Cradle with tapered mass is built and used to demonstrate how conservation of momentum can increase the velocity at the end of a string of spheres with decreasing size and mass.
